see: a daylit moon pinned against a taut blue sky. a clearing. a great big oak tree. an afternoon spent giggling under the dappled light. we’re more candid and human than either of us have ever been. we’ve forgotten the time because we’re in love.
later, in your apartment, the orange pools in your eyes. you reach across the dark, clear the damp hair from my face. we stick to each other despite the cold whirling in from the air conditioner. you cradle my cheeks in your palms, kiss my eyelids closed, speak something soft & unintelligible into my neck.
days pass in a series of promises. every morning, i wake to a letter on my pillow. every night, you undress, unfold, unmake me. night after night, we burn against the black, forge each other clean.
